Annual Fish Fry 2007

We were happy to meet a lot of people in the community during our annual fish fry this past July. Prattville fire department brought out their training trailer which was a big hit. The children all enjoyed jumping in the blow up slides and getting balloon animals made by our clown. The air evacuation life team brought in their helicopter so that the community could see it. They also took some time to train the fire fighters here in Independence how to best work with them in helping to land the helicopter and assist with transports.

Independence Fire Fighter of the Year

Congratulations to Ben Absher for receiving this year's award as the Fire Fighter of the Year. Ben gives so much of this time to the Independence fire department. Everyone can count on Ben. He shows up for almost every call even if it is 3:00 in the morning. He does a lot of the training each month. Ben is a great guy and we are proud to have him as the Captain of our fire department.

Prattville Christmas Parade

We were invited to participate in both the Prattville and Old Kingston Christmas Parades. Everyone had fun during the Prattville parade. We threw candy to the crowd which was a huge hit. Unfortunately the Old Kingston parade was cancelled due to weather.

Improvements around the station

We knew we had people from other fire departments coming for the CPR classes. We wanted to make sure our station looked good so we cleaned and painted the bathrooms. Bob, our resident cook made all the firefighters breakfast the morning of the CPR class. Thanks Velida and Jen for painting. Thanks to Bob and Velida for breakfast!

We do a lot of training each month so that when you need us, we are ready. These pictures were taken during one such training day.

More Tornado Pictures

Most of our firefighters were stationed in the commercial district of Prattville. Our assistant chief was doing search and rescue through the homes that were hit so hard. The pictures provided here are ones that other people took and gave to us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families and businesses affected by this terrible event.

Prattville tornados

We were called out to assist with clean up and search and rescue after the devastating tornados hit Prattville this month. The damage we witnessed was awful. We were honored to take a small part in helping to make a very bad situation a little easier for the people of Prattville. These pictures were taken from one of the trucks and some on the ground upon arriving at the scene.

CPR training

We want to say a huge thank you to Mike Whaley from Prattville Fire Department for doing our training. The training was made possible by Denise Louthain in Dothan so we want to thank her also. We were happy to have Old Kingston Vol. Fire Deptartment join us for this training.

Taking advantage of a warm February day.

Your fire department has 7 trucks to serve this community. We try hard to keep them looking nice and make sure they are well maintained. It was a gorgeous February day so we decided to wash all the trucks. If you ever see us out working like this, please stop by and say hello. We promise not to put you to work. LOL

Pictures of the community enjoying the Fall Festival

Everyone seemed to truly have a wonderful time. The community filled up on hot dogs, cotton candy, and popcorn. There were lots of games including a bean bag toss, bucket whiffle throw, fishing for prizes, miniture golf, and bobbing fore apples. Both the cake walk and the big jump stations outside were a huge hit.
